Ecuador High Altitude Expedition: Dispatch 6

Ecuador High Altitude Expedition: November 26–Dec 10, 2010

Lead Guide: Pepe Landazuri

Climbers: Diane Evans, Robert Krueger, Timothy Pattee, John Stephenson, Scott Curtis.

Pepe called Wednesday, December 2nd at 10:06 am Ecuador (and US Eastern) time with the following update:

"Good morning, and hello again from Ecuador.  Here's the news from the team.

Today we are going to have a much-needed rest day.  As I mentioned yesterday, we had a great climb yesterday and stopped just a little below the summit.  Everyone enjoyed the view and enjoyed the climb because the conditions were more than good, they were perfect! Everyone is acclimatized very well at this point.

We’re going to some hot springs and then head back to the hacienda in the afternoon. We’re glad to relax today and take it easy.  We’ll start preparing for our next peak, Cotopaxi, as well. I’ll call tomorrow morning or in the afternoon for another update.  Everyone sends a warm hello to family and friends back home."

File photo of the southern summit of Cayambe from the air, with Cotopaxi (the team's next goal) in the distance on the right.  Chimborazo is in the center on the horizon, a little hard to pick out.  The climbing team had much clearer atmospheric conditions than the day on which this image was taken.

Here are some photos of Hacienda Guachala where the team is staying:
