Ecuador High Altitude Expedition: Dispatch 10

Ecuador High Altitude Expedition: November 26–Dec 10, 2010

Lead Guide: Pepe Landazuri

Climbers: Diane Evans, Robert Krueger, Timothy Pattee, John Stephenson, Scott Curtis.

Pepe called Sunday, December 5th at 12:37pm (Ecuador and US Eastern time) with the following message:

Good morning, this is Pepe calling from Ecuador. Timothy and I were on the same team and we left at 11pm. The rest of the group left in the middle of the night around midnight.

We got to 5,850 meter and decided not to continue.  We were blocked by a very large crevasse.  I tried to navigate another path but it was not possible.  The weather was clear but the snow conditions were not so good.  The rest of the group made it to about the same elevation, but we could not continue.

The next thing to do is start preparing for Chimborazo. Everyone is still enjoying the trip.  This was a good climb, though we did not reach the summit.  I'll call tomorrow with another update.
