Kurt called with a dispatch at 12 pm on May 9th:

“Hello! This is a very cold Kurt calling from 14,000 feet. Yesterday we got an early start before the sun came up, which was about 9:30. We packed up and headed to make another cache at the top of the fixed lines. The weather was cold and windy, but at the top of the fixed lines, it turned out to be nice and pleasant, which lifted our moods. Everyone did well getting through the fixed lines. We hung out at the top for a while and dug our cache, which was exhausting! We also stopped to chat with the Park Service. They were doing maintenance work on the downhill fixed line. Finally we arrived back at camp at about 5:30pm and had some Mac-and-Cheese Supreme (or as we are calling it – Mac-and -Cheese Extreme). The sun set around the West Rib at about 8:30 and we crawled into bed. It dropped to about -20 instantly. We plan to take the next day, or maybe two, as a rest day. It’s so cold right now, it’s almost impossible to do anything with the wind chill!”
