Denali Team 2: May 8 - 28 Dispatch #1
Denali Team 2: May 8 - 28, 2011
Guide: Richard Riquelme and Mary Harlan
Climbers: Claire Morrissey (London, UK), Stephen Baldock (Washington State), and Johnna Haskel (Maine)
Richard Riquelme called in with a dispatch at 9:54am on May 9th:
"Hello everyone! We flew onto the glacier yesterday. The weather was decent but we did have to wait an hour and a half to fly onto the glacier. Luckily the weather window opened and we made in onto the Kahiltna Glacier. Once at basecamp we promptly set up camp, ate some food, and then we straight to bed.
We just finished breakfast this morning and have a lot planned for the rest of the day. We are going to refresh our glacier travel and crevasse rescue skills and then move on to packing and sorting all of our food. It is so important that we divide up all the group gear and food evenly! Since the weather is very cold up here we are planning on moving during the day. We will keep you all updated on our progress, everyone is very excited to be up here!"
