Denali Team 6: June 3 to June 23 - Dispatch #11

Guides: Mike Pond, Dustin Byrne, Tad McCrea

Climbers: Jim Bonadonna (New York), David Wain (UK), David Pritchett (UK), Todd Fletcher (Australia), Peter Menne (Germany), David Martin (Australia), Mark Mueller (California), Philip Mace (Bermuda), Brian Knowles (California)

Mike Pond called at 11:43 pm June 17th. Hey all we are currently at High camp. After some pretty challenging weather the last couple days despite the awesome forecast it's now cleared up and just gorgeous and still. So we're hoping to make a summit attempt on Tuesday. Today and Monday we'll be taking a rest and waiting for Tad to get back up here from 14 camp then we'll make a group push.

Messages:
Tod says (something broken up maybe "G'day") to the outside world, Mom and Dad, Paul , Carl, and Michelle

We'd all like to wish our Happy Father's a Happy Father's Day!

Love and kisses to Mark! We miss you so much! We hope you had a nice Father's Day at High Camp....you were missed at sea level!
Why did Tad go to 14? WHEN did he leave? Did someone on your team need to go down with Tad?
Get some rest and good luck with your summit attempt!

To the family of the climbers- I have been receiving regular signals from my husband, Mark, indicating his "OK" status along with his exact coordinates, since June 3. He can also push 2 other buttons "needs help" and "911." The AAI administrator asked that I share them with you. I can see that they have not moved since Friday night. Here's the last one that I received earlier today. I recommend going to the "terrain" view in Google maps and zooming in to see their altitude. I will forward at least one a day. Here's the latest:

From Mark's wife, Ellen:
Family & Friends of Climbers- I just received the satellite "OK" from the 17,200 High Camp. It was sent around 9:12AM PDT. I also received one from High Camp at 10:45PM last night. I'm not sure if they attempted the summit today, or not. I would REALLY like to know if anyone else has had a call/signal from anyone on Team 6 since the last posting on Sunday night. Please share any news...

Thanks for all the updates, it is quite exciting to have a bit of knowledge of what is happening on the mountain and to follow the progress on the map. We are all getting excited and waiting for the next report.

Message for David M - Sarah has left for Alaska and Gambe is at home eating the pot plants.

Good Luck to all and safe climbing and descending.

I just got a call from Mark around 11:35PM PDT. They are back at High Camp (17,200ft). They visited the summit today in abundant sunshine- and photographed it bare-chested! The round trip was 11 hours. They plan on going down to the lowest camp on Wed- where they'll overnight. They hope to fly off the mountain (weather permitting) on Thurs AM, and then hang out in Talkeetna to celebrate with some beers.
Congratulations to Team 6!
Ellen (Mark's wife)
